The Wimberley City Council voted March 5 to extend a temporary moratorium on accepting, processing and approving conditional‑use permit applications for short‑term rentals for 120 days.
Council members said an STR committee, which includes planning and zoning representatives and city staff, is drafting recommendations and expects to present a finalized package in roughly 30 days. Staff cautioned that some desired options may not be legally available; the city attorney advised that a moratorium can only be imposed for a maximum period (120 days in this case) without additional legal steps.
Councilmembers emphasized the moratorium is a pause to allow staff and attorneys to craft legally defensible zoning changes and said the moratorium can be lifted earlier if the recommendations are adopted sooner. Council approved the extension by unanimous voice vote, 4‑0.
