The Wimberley Planning and Zoning Commission voted Jan. 8 to establish a Planning & Zoning Commission Property Stewardship recognition program to honor land conservation or building improvements that preserve or enhance Wimberley.
Commissioners described a recent land conservatorship where a large tract underwent cedar removal and mulching to restore springs and water paths as an example of the kind of work the recognition would highlight. Commissioners suggested the program could mirror the City Councils community excellence award for wording and structure and recommended the commission keep decision-making in-house rather than making it a public contest.
A commissioner moved to start establishment of the recognition program and explicitly include both land and buildings; another commissioner offered a friendly amendment to include building-site improvements. The motion was seconded and carried by the commissioners present.
Staff offered to draft a policy mirroring the council award and to provide plaque wording options. The commission did not set detailed nomination guidelines at the meeting and agreed to return with policy language and procedures in a future meeting.
