Edmond partners with UCO to open campus recycling drop-off center

The City of Edmond approved an agreement with the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) and the Edmond Public Works Authority to establish a citywide recycling drop-off center on UCO property for students, staff and the public.
Bobby Masterson, assistant director of public works, said UCO will provide space, containers and signage and the city will service the containers through its contractor and transport recyclables to a processing center. The plan calls for five containers (cardboard; plastics; paper; glass; aluminum and tin cans). Masterson said containers are on-site, signage is in transit, and staff expects to place the drop-off station into service in early November.
Councilors praised the partnership as increasing convenient recycling access for the community. One council member noted the site benefits Ward 1 residents and that the facility will be available to all Edmond residents.
Next steps: staff will install signage and containers and begin contractor servicing; no additional funding or contract amendments were identified during the meeting.
