Tracy Chamley says she’ll bring local perspective to New Castle County Planning Board amid growth concerns

Tracy Chamley spoke to the New Castle County Boards and Commission Subcommittee on January 20 as a nominee for the county Planning Board, describing herself as a Southern New Castle representative on the PAC committee and saying she wants to bring local, lived experience to planning decisions.
"My name is Tracy Chamley," she told the committee, adding that she has lived in Delaware for eight years and serves on PAC. Chamley said the Planning Board provides an opportunity to influence how growth is planned in the county and singled out infrastructure — roads, schools and hospitals — as areas where planning decisions have concrete effects on residents.
A council member asked directly whether overdevelopment is a problem in Southern New Castle County. "It is starting to become that," Chamley replied, and said improved planning and infrastructure investments are needed to manage growth.
Council and staff members noted current infrastructure projects and said bringing a representative from the area where growth is concentrated would be useful. One committee member urged Chamley to review ongoing contracts and project briefs; staff referenced the Will Matco and JMT contracts as examples of infrastructure work under review and encouraged coordination with county staff for briefings.
Chamley said she wanted to ensure that planning decisions accounted for transportation and social-service access as development proceeds. Council members expressed support for her nomination and reminded her that the appointment will be voted on by the full County Council next week.
