Following a TWM Engineering study, the board approved raising the school‑zone speed limit on Sequoyah Road from 25 mph to 35 mph for a two‑mile section and lowering the roadway speed from Montlake Road to Charlie’s Restaurant from 40 mph to 30 mph (a 24/7 change). City Manager Johnson said flashers in the area will be relocated and the change is intended to enhance enforcement of school‑hour crossings for Ivy Academy; Police Chief Sneed said the changes should be made within about 30 days after approval.
The board also accepted a state grant of $103,000 to purchase and install 4K security cameras for the city’s parks. Police Chief Sneed said the cameras will provide improved security for parks and allow notifications to be viewed on cell phones. The motions to adopt the speed changes and to accept the grant were moved and seconded by Commissioner Keith and Vice‑Mayor Coleman, respectively, and both passed unanimously.
The board did not set specific enforcement dates beyond the implementation estimate; staff will coordinate relocation of flashers and installation of equipment.
