Police report uptick in crashes; donations, fire station work, library events and trash‑cart deliveries highlighted

Police: Chief Glenny reported an increase in vehicle crashes in the borough, noting that higher traffic volumes during peak hours and violations of 'No Turn' signs have contributed to more stops. He also said that, for the first time in about 20 years, all marked police vehicles will feature a uniform design. The American Legion is donating funds for six exterior vest carriers, and the Mechanicsburg Club is contributing $5,000 toward electronic bikes for the department. Chief Glenny said academy graduations are approaching and new officers are expected to begin in mid‑December; no ceremonial swearing‑in is scheduled at this time.
Fire department: S.R. Duffie reported that substantial site work for the new fire station is complete, including on‑site stormwater management. The general contractor, Centurion Construction, is scheduled to begin work in the last week of December and the HOP permit for the project is expected soon. Fire Administrator Taylor said recent finance meetings discussed a potential transition of bill payments funded through the fire tax to the borough, with the borough reimbursing the department for eligible expenses; the council did not make a decision on that change at the Nov. 18 session.
Community notices: Library fundraising events were recapped—Sal’s Pizza’s Nov. 13 fundraiser raised $110 for the Friends of the Simpson Library, and the Nov. 1 Bowling for Books event supported children’s materials. Executive Director Sue Erdman was recognized as Cumberland County Library System Employee of the Month and is scheduled to retire in February 2026.
Solid‑waste update: PEM Arnold said Penn Waste cart deliveries will begin Dec. 1 and conclude by Dec. 15. Councilmembers raised concerns about residents without adequate space for the new carts; Arnold said staff are coordinating with residents, businesses and Penn Waste to find appropriate locations.
