Lane County EMS director: no transfers during ambulance repairs; health department ends commodities role

EMS Director Cynthia Landgraf reported she has returned to duty, will undergo the Kansas BEMS annual inspection, and said the county will not accept ambulance transfers while the ambulance is in the repair shop. The Health Department will notify USDA that it is no longer responsible for the Commodities program effective Feb. 1.
Cynthia Landgraf, Lane County EMS Director, told commissioners on Feb. 2 that she has returned to work and will undergo the annual inspection with Kansas BEMS sometime after Feb. 9. Landgraf said the county will not accept patient transfers while the ambulance is out for repairs and that she will coordinate transfer availability with the hospital.
Landgraf raised concerns about possible termite evidence in the ambulance bay and said she will solicit bids for inspection and any needed treatment. She also explained the duties of the county Medical Director and said she will speak with Dr. Chinburg to determine whether he will continue in that role; the minutes note Dr. Chinburg has provided “excellent service over the years.”
Arlene Doll of the Health Department presented the 2026–2027 grant application signature page and updated the board on the Commodities food-distribution program. Doll said the Baptist Church is still deciding whether to continue distribution and is discussing a possible joint plan with the Ministerial Alliance. The board agreed that with a new grocery store and existing retail options (Dollar General, Out of the Box) food accessibility is not an active county concern and that if the Ministerial Alliance declines to take over the Commodities program, the program will be discontinued. Doll will notify USDA that, effective Feb. 1, the Health Department is no longer responsible for the Commodities program.
The commissioners did not move forward at this time with a proposed Memorandum of Understanding or payer-report framework for EMS; Cindy Landgraf was asked to gather examples from five or six other counties for the board to review.
