Fayette County honors first responders; commissioners approve routine consent items and set animal shelter open house

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — At its April 11 meeting the Fayette County Board of Commissioners recognized local emergency responders and approved routine consent items covering right-of-way acquisitions, road project lists and meeting minutes.
Larry Dell of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars presented awards to Captain Eric Williams as Fayette County Fire & Emergency Services 2024 EMT of the Year and Lauren Patterson as Fayette County 911 2024 Communications Officer of the Year, saying it was "an honor to make this presentation to both Captain Williams and Communications Officer Patterson" and praising their dedication to the community.
The board approved a consent agenda that included authorization for staff to acquire fee-simple right-of-way, easements and appraisals for the Cross Creek Trail culvert-replacement project (SPLOST Stormwater Project 168), right-of-way and easement acquisition for a proposed signalized intersection at Highway 85 and Highway 85 Connector (2004 SPLOST R-19/R-20), the county's 2024 Supplemental Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) project list for unincorporated Fayette County and signature authority for the LMIG application, the county's official "List of Roadways," and approval of the March 28, 2024 meeting minutes.
County Administrator Steve Rapson briefed the board on the Hot Projects report, which included updates on parks and recreation facilities, the Redwine Road multi-use path and other infrastructure projects, and announced a community open house for the new Animal Shelter on Saturday, April 13 at 3:00 p.m. Rapson also said the county's annual retreat had been rescheduled to May 16.
The board recessed into executive session to discuss four threatened-litigation items and to review executive-session minutes, then returned to official session and approved the executive-session affidavit and revised March 28, 2024 executive-session minutes. The meeting adjourned at 5:41 p.m.
