Washington County commissioners approve consent agenda, social media policy and budget transfers; recess to budget workshop Jan. 13

The Washington County Board of Commissioners met Jan. 6 and took several routine and governance actions.
The board unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included the previous meeting's minutes and tax refunds, releases and insolvent accounts. Commissioner Riddick moved the approval and Commissioner Sexton seconded.
Commissioner Riddick moved and Commissioner Walker seconded to adopt a social media policy as an administrative policy; Commissioner Johnson said the policy indicates staff are open to disclosure, and Chair D. Cole Phelps said staff who violate it must answer to the County Manager. The motion passed unanimously.
Finance Officer Missy Dixon reviewed budget amendments and transfers. Commissioner Sexton moved to approve the amendments and transfers; the board voted unanimously to approve them.
Chair Phelps announced the board would recess to a budget workshop on Jan. 13 at 5:00 p.m. The board later voted unanimously to enter a closed session under NCGS §143-318.11(a)(3) (attorney-client privilege) and §143-318.11(a)(6) (personnel) and, after returning to open session at 8:50 p.m., recessed to the Jan. 13 budget workshop.
Other items heard included a Granicus boards-and-committees software demonstration (Clerk Julie J. Bennett proposed a March 2 go-live date), a presentation on outreach strategies for a proposed 1/4-cent sales tax referendum, and an update on hospital financing and a pending hearing in Raleigh. No votes on those items were recorded Jan. 6.
