Fiscal Court schedules bridge replacement, advances road priorities and suspends noncompliant tow operator

County Road Supervisor Anthony Vise briefed the Fleming County Fiscal Court on planning for the upcoming asphalt paving and chip seal season and reviewed roads left unfinished from last year; magistrates agreed to proceed with completing the prior priority list.
The court recorded that the Branch Brothers bridge replacement project is scheduled to begin June 26 and that the road will be closed for approximately two weeks; property owners will be notified of the closure.
Sheriff Smith reported results of inspections of wrecker service providers: Brooks Towing and Brummett's Towing complied with requirements, Keaton's Towing lacked DOT numbers and additional insurance and Sexton's Towing had not been inspected. The court voted unanimously to keep Brooks and Brummett's on the wrecker rotation list and to suspend Keaton's Towing until it meets compliance and passes inspection. County Attorney Monica Hill said her office will notify Keaton's of the court's action.
Sheriff Smith also noted that bumper guards for patrol vehicles would be advantageous after recent deer strikes. Constable District 4 Nathan Perry presented his May–June activity report and said he has a state vehicle equipped with lights but will not use them in Fleming County without court approval.
Dispatch Director Charlotte Benton presented May dispatch activity and was authorized to pursue recent applicants and begin employment testing. The court approved declaring several Avaya phone system units and an old television as surplus and authorized their disposal.
The court also authorized applying for a local broadband study grant and gave the County Judge/Executive authority to sign and execute grant documents. The finance officer reported a $127.07 Visa payment dispute and ongoing courthouse repairs after a broken sprinkler head flooded the district courtroom; water-line work with Flemingsburg Utilities may require courthouse closures on upcoming scheduled days.
