Board approves minutes, warrants and a $500,000 school appropriation; sets May 8 hearings and appoints Arts Alive member

The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors took a series of routine and procedural actions during its April 10 regular meeting.
The board approved minutes from Feb. 21, Feb. 27 and March 13 on a motion by Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. Simpkins. The board also approved county warrants and payroll for April on a motion by Ms. Alsop, seconded by Ms. Morris.
The board approved a final FY23 local appropriation to the School Fund in the amount of $500,000 (motion by Ms. Alsop, seconded by Ms. Morris). The Planning Commission’s recommendation to approve rezoning RZ23-01 (Loudon Farm Corp., 14.1-acre parcel at 3467 Mantua Road) was accepted on a motion by Ms. Morris and seconded by Ms. Burns; that motion passed unanimously.
Several appointments to boards and commissions were tabled. The board appointed Nita Bunting to the Arts Alive board (motion by Mr. Bailey, seconded by Ms. Alsop; unanimous). The board set the May 8 meeting as the date for public hearings on Planning Commission items related to mining, an EDA name change and a Farmer’s Market/Riverstreet lease.
The board entered a closed session under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(8) for consultation with legal counsel and subsequently certified that only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed. The meeting was adjourned at 8:54 p.m.
