County officials say courthouse security is in place; administrators promise timetable, MWBE and subcontracting breakdowns

Hudson County officials told commissioners on Jan. 21 that the new county courthouse is staffed by sheriff’s personnel around the clock and that remaining construction issues are limited to punch‑list and IT work for the courts.
"Yes, we're there 24‑7," Undersheriff Andrew Conti said when asked how the building is being secured. Director D'Alessandro stated the county took occupancy in late June.
Project lead David Drumeler said the construction team is closing punch‑list items and will complete the remaining items quickly. "We're finishing up some punch lists with them, and we have a couple of days more, day five, I assume we'll finish it," he said. Drumeler added that the longest remaining construction item is installation of a secondary fence around the sally port, and that the courts are completing IT and security work themselves.
Commissioner William O'Dea asked for a written status report with timelines and breakdowns of local and MWBE participation. Administrator Abraham Antun and Drumeler said they would provide the requested information, including trade‑by‑trade local participation and spending breakdowns, and a formal update by the end of the week.
Commissioner Albert Cifelli asked about coordination with the assignment judge; officials said the new assignment judge, Judge Katz, has been cooperative and the administrative interface is proceeding well.
Next steps: County staff will provide a written status report with punch‑list items remaining, MWBE/local subcontractor participation by trade, and an accounting of funds spent to date. Sheriff’s office security is in place; no change to staffing was announced.
