King and Queen supervisors hold public hearing on FY24 budget; vote expected May 8

The King and Queen County Board of Supervisors conducted a public hearing April 10 on the proposed FY24 county budget, with County Administrator Vivian Seay presenting the document and its major assumptions.
Seay said the proposed budget funds the continuation of current capital projects and includes salary increases consistent with the state proposal of 7 percent; most other budget lines are level-funded or adjusted modestly for inflation. The public hearing drew no speakers and was closed. Seay reminded the Board that the board cannot act on the budget until at least seven days after the hearing; the board indicated it intends to vote on the budget at its May 8 meeting.
The FY24 hearing followed earlier board action in the same meeting to approve a final FY23 local appropriation to the School Fund of $500,000.
