Buffalo County proclaims National Police Week and EMS Week; approves routine consent items and Equalization actions

The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners used its May 13 meeting to approve a series of routine and ceremonial items including proclamations, payroll ratification and administrative approvals.
Proclamations and recognitions: The board adopted Resolution 2025-26 proclaiming May 11–17, 2025 as National Police Week; Sheriff Neil Miller and county deputies were present and Commissioner Lynch read the proclamation. The board also adopted Resolution 2025-27 proclaiming May 18–24, 2025 as Emergency Medical Services Week; Commissioner Maendele read the EMS proclamation, which the minutes say noted volunteer EMS squads responded to 1,103 calls for service in 2024.
Consent and administrative items: The board ratified May 2, 2025 payroll claims; approved manager applications for Travis Maatsch (Kearney Elks Lodge 984) and Angela Smallcomb (Gibbon Valley View Municipal Golf Course); authorized renewals for Group Term Life and Long-Term Disability insurance with National Insurance Services; accepted a new administrative fee set by First Concord beginning July 2025; and accepted the 2024 Tax Increment Financing Report for the City of Ravenna, the Clerk of the District Court April 2025 report, and the Treasurer’s April 2025 Fund Balance Report. The board also approved a letter of support to the Nebraska Broadband Office for the BEAD Project.
Board of Equalization actions: After recessing, the Board of Equalization voted to hear 2025 property valuation protests (directions for the county clerk to send notices), approved a Motor Vehicle Tax Exemption renewal for First Baptist Church of Kearney (2020 Ford Transit) and approved tax list corrections numbered 5097–5102 before adjourning and returning the meeting to regular session.
