HELENA, Ala. — Mayor Billy Rosener provided the council with municipal operations updates Monday, reporting progress on public-safety equipment, parks, and infrastructure projects.
Rosener said Medic 67, donated by the Shelby County Commission, arrived well ahead of an anticipated December 2026 timeline; the unit will replace Medic 66 at Station One and Medic 65 will move into reserve. Fire Chief Chris Miller described only city costs as striping and outfitting the unit.
Rosener also said Parks and Recreation baseball and soccer seasons will start soon and residents have funded an indoor pickleball option (nets and striping), meaning no city cost for that initial setup. He said additional options for the new sports complex are being developed for future presentations to the council.
Public Works reported removal of the pier at Joe Tucker Park while replacement options are discussed, and Roy Drive will be closed the next day to repair a drain pipe under the road. The turn lane project at Hwy 17 and Hwy 58 remains targeted for a March 16 completion after failing a roll test and requiring corrections. The library will hold a book sale Thursday through Saturday, and the first Coffee with the Community is scheduled for this Saturday morning in council chambers.
Rosener also said employees recently elected Tim Alexander to the Personnel Board and that he will recommend Dennis O'Brien as the second member; Council later appointed O'Brien during the meeting.
