Electoral Board asks county to convert part-time assistant to full-time ahead of early voting

General Registrar Diane Klausen and members of the Electoral Board requested that the county convert a part-time assistant position in the registrar’s office to a full-time role so the office can meet legal and operational needs before early voting begins in August. Klausen said an assistant is required by state code and that recent hiring has been difficult because most applicants seek full-time positions.
Director of Finance Tina Ammons provided a salary comparison and noted a base salary for comparable positions in the county pay plan is about $35,000; with benefits the total cost to the county was estimated at roughly $55,000. Vivian Seay suggested that, if approved, the full-time employee could be shared with other offices during non-election periods to reduce downtime.
The board reached consensus to place the matter on the July 10 meeting agenda for formal action. No formal vote on the conversion was recorded at the June 26 meeting.
