Board appointments, opioid training funds and TIF process advance at Kossuth County meeting

At its Feb. 10, 2026 meeting, the Kossuth County Board of Supervisors approved several administrative actions and advanced planning items.
The board appointed Jordan Valvick as township trustee for Lincoln Township (motion by Kyle Stecker, second by Amber Garman). It approved an Opioid Settlement Fund request for $2,956 to pay for Iowa Narcotics Office Training that will serve the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, the Algona Police Department and the Kossuth County Attorney’s Office (motion by Amber Garman, second by Kyle Stecker). Both motions carried unanimously.
Proposals for an Emergency Response Complex were opened from CMBA Architects, Atura Architecture and Berglund & Cram; the board said it will select and approve an architect at next week’s meeting. Supervisors also voted to move forward with $5 million for the Buffalo Township renewal and tax-increment financing (TIF) process (motion by Howard Haas, second by Amber Garman). The board discussed clarifying collective bargaining agreement language in the county handbook and possible changes to courthouse hours but took no action on either item at this meeting.
Budget workshops were held covering Buffalo Township UR, the sheriff’s budget, self-insurance, mental health, fair and ambulance budgets. Supervisor Josh Waechter left the meeting before adjournment. The board adjourned at 3:17 p.m.
