Satsuma council hears building, senior, police and fire reports; parks and public works note repairs

Councilmembers on Dec. 2 presented routine departmental updates covering building permits, senior services, public safety and parks and public works.

Councilmember Randy Little presented the Building Department monthly report: 18 new permits, 38 building and trade inspections, 3 code-violation cases, 91 active permits and 11 new homes underway. Councilmember Jake O’Rear reported senior-services totals of 25 medical trips, 39 Meals on Wheels clients served and 663 meals delivered and asked staff for a month-to-date revenue and expenditure report.

Councilmember Jason Skelton gave the police report (485 calls for service, 7 felony cases with 4 felony arrests, 70 misdemeanor cases with 25 arrests, 3 traffic accidents, 48 traffic citations and 75 traffic warnings) and the fire report (45 emergency medical calls, 3 fire-related calls, one structure fire, one grass/woods fire and 87 other calls; 153 total calls for service). Skelton also noted station improvements: new signage on Old Hwy 43, colored LED lights installed by Smith Electric for the front of the station, and scheduled wiring replacement for engine-bay doors.

Councilmember Shirley Presnall said tennis courts need repair and noted ongoing youth-sports coordination; Councilmember Bert Taylor thanked Public Works for recent maintenance work and said the leaf vacuum is currently running.
