Cusseta–Chattahoochee County approves FY2026 budget, forestry agreement and routine agenda items

The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County adopted its operating and capital budget for fiscal year 2025–26 and approved a suite of routine actions at a regular meeting on June 3, 2025.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the FY2025–26 budget, which takes effect July 1, 2025. The commission noted pending adjustments to income lines and discussed increasing the mileage rate by “1–2 mils” as part of final bookkeeping before the new fiscal year.
In the same meeting the commission approved an agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission to provide a fire‑tower operator for Cusseta–Chattahoochee County for the period July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026. The contract authorizes county payments not to exceed $4,738.58 for the contract period. "The money from FLOST is only for property tax relief," County Attorney Bin Minter summarized for the board while describing recent legislative changes; he advised the commission that a resolution and a special election could be required to place a sales‑tax question on the ballot.
The board also reappointed Carol Greer to Post 3 of the Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Board of Tax Assessors for a four‑year term through June 1, 2029; the motion passed unanimously. Chairman Charles Coffey publicly thanked Greer for continuing to serve, saying the county values volunteers who accept board appointments.
Other actions approved without recorded dissent included putting Friendship Road out to bid for resurfacing (one coat and striping), declaring a 2008 Massey Ferguson tractor surplus and authorizing its trade toward the purchase of a New Holland tractor (the agreed trade value was $10,000), and granting a conditional use permit for a manufactured home on 15.13 acres at 410 Firetower Road (Spillers). Motions were made and seconded as recorded in the meeting minutes and carried by unanimous vote of the commissioners present.
The commission entered executive session at 6:45 p.m. to discuss matters permitted by Georgia’s open‑meetings law and reconvened at 7:04 p.m.; Chairman Coffey stated that no votes were taken during the closed session.
The meeting adjourned after certification of the minutes; the packet contains the formal resolutions and contract language for items approved at the meeting.
The commission is scheduled to take up additional items at its July 1 meeting, including formal placement of the FLOST sales‑tax question on the ballot and the appointment of an additional assessor candidate.
