Shea chosen chair as Pottawattamie County Board sets 2026 procedures and deputies

The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors elected Brian Shea chairperson for 2026 and Tim Wichman chair pro‑tem during its Jan. 2 organizational meeting, after District Court Judge Maggie Popp Reyes swore in Keith Jones as a newly elected supervisor. Mary Ann Hanusa, the county auditor, served as temporary chair for the election and then returned to her role as auditor.
The leadership votes were conducted by nomination and roll call. The board then adopted Robert’s Rules of Order as its parliamentary authority when not inconsistent with the Code of Iowa and set regular board sessions for Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m., with the chair authorized to cancel or add meetings. The board also confirmed that town‑hall meetings in rural Pottawattamie County will continue.
The supervisors approved a slate of deputy appointments by resolution, listing deputies in key offices including the auditor, treasurer, recorder, sheriff and county attorney. The board approved a resolution authorizing the county auditor to issue warrants before audit for specified purposes (salaries, court‑ordered transportation, certified grand jury bills and previously fixed benefits), and set county administrative policies such as township trustee and clerk compensation and limits on paid township meetings.
Taken together, the actions establish the board’s operating rules, meeting cadence and administrative staffing for 2026. Several motions passed on unanimous roll call votes where indicated in the minutes. The board adjourned its organizational session at 11:01 a.m.
