Boone County supervisors approve pay adjustments, sign Ledges park road agreement; 17th Street vacation tabled

The Boone County Board of Supervisors met March 4, 2026, at the Boone County Courthouse. Chairman Erich D. Kretzinger called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.; Supervisors Shawn Bryant and Scott Longhorn were present. The board unanimously approved the agenda and a consent agenda that included three pay adjustments, meeting minutes and county claims and warrants totaling $183,484.43.
The consent agenda approved personnel pay adjustments listed in the meeting record: Kirsten Smith (Assessor Administrative Real Estate Clerk) to $28.89 per hour effective March 21, 2026; James E. Fox (Assessor Appraiser/Clerk) to $25.34 per hour effective April 1, 2026; and Peyton Ward (Assessor Appraiser/Office Assistant) to $28.16 per hour effective April 1, 2026. The board also approved issuance of warrants #100261 to #100344 to satisfy the claims listing.
Supervisor Shawn Bryant moved and Supervisor Scott Longhorn seconded a motion approving a letter of support for Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity’s Madrid Endowment Grant; the motion carried unanimously.
The board adopted Resolution 26-11, making an order for the destruction of noxious weeds effective immediately; the county auditor’s office maintains a copy of the resolution. Later in the meeting, County Engineer Jonathan Bullock gave a departmental update and the board approved signing a Roadway Maintenance Agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for Ledges State Park.
The board opened a public hearing at 9:15 a.m. on a proposed vacation and abandonment of a section of 17th Street in McCormick’s Addition. Several property owners attended the hearing; meeting notes state two attendees said they were willing to accept the extra property while one attendee said she would consult her attorney. The hearing closed at 9:23 a.m.; the board then voted to table adoption of Resolution 26-13 (the vacation and abandonment resolution) for one week, carrying the motion unanimously.
Landfill Administrator John Roosa provided a departmental update. Representatives Mikaela Kienitz and Lydia Billings of Boone County Hospital were present to discuss adult day, home health and homemaker services and made a funding request; the meeting record does not specify the amount requested.
Supervisor Bryant moved and Supervisor Longhorn seconded a motion to adjourn; Chairman Kretzinger adjourned the meeting at 11:01 a.m. The minutes were attested by County Auditor Diane R. Patrick.
What happens next: Resolution 26-13 was tabled for one week, so the board may consider final action at a subsequent meeting; the Auditor’s Office holds the formal resolutions and full claims listing for public inspection.
