Rhea County commission approves multiple 2025–26 budget amendments and adopts FY2026–27 calendar

The Rhea County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a package of budget amendments for the 2025–26 fiscal year and adopted the county’s budget calendar for 2026–27 at its Jan. 20 meeting.
Commissioner Bill Thedford moved to approve Amendments #61–64 to Fund 101 (County General), which reallocate personnel and TVA‑grant related lines and make other line adjustments. The package also included Amendment #4 for Fund 116 (solid waste), Amendment #5 for Fund 131 (highway, to cover a truck insurance premium), and Amendment #12 for Fund 141 (school), which recorded a $23,000 TISA on‑behalf payment for students participating in Individualized Education Account programs. The motions were seconded and carried unanimously.
The commission then approved a Budget Calendar for fiscal year 2026–27, presented by county finance staff, which sets department submission deadlines, committee review windows and a target schedule for advertising and adopting the adopted budget by June 30. The calendar lays out phased deadlines from department preparation starting Jan. 26 through committee review in April and May, with advertisement slated for mid‑June.
Clerical and supporting materials in the packet show specific line reassignments. Among the changes: Amendment #61 reallocates TVA 2026 grant funds across Fire Prevention and EMA salary lines; Amendment #62 transfers volunteer fire reserve funds to purchase hoses and thermal imaging equipment for two volunteer fire departments; Amendment #63 covers medical invoices, unemployment compensation and roofing work; and Amendment #5 in the highway fund covers an insurance premium for newly acquired trucks.
The commission recorded each vote as unanimous on the record. No public comment was recorded on the amendments during the meeting. The board adjourned after completing remaining agenda items.
