Nelson County commissioners approve Burr Oak Bay permit, sign NDDOT DocuSign and pass May finances

The Nelson County Commission, meeting June 18, 2024, approved a series of routine actions and discussed road and daycare-site repairs.
Chairman Cody Johnson called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. and all five commissioners — Aaron Mork, Mike Haugland, Cameron Swenson and Steve Forde — were present. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Commissioner Cameron Swenson moved to approve the June 4 minutes; Commissioner Aaron Mork seconded and the motion carried with all members voting “Yes.” The board then approved an amended agenda that added a building-permit item, a daycare update and a DocuSign agreement.
Auditor Nathan Parks presented a building permit application for Burr Oak Bay. Commissioner Aaron Mork moved to approve the permit and Commissioner Steve Forde seconded. The commission approved the permit on a unanimous vote.
Parks also presented the ledger and financial statements for May. Commissioner Aaron Mork moved to approve the May financial statements and Commissioner Mike Haugland seconded; the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. Later in the meeting Commissioner Steve Forde moved, and Commissioner Aaron Mork seconded, approval of the bills as presented; that motion also passed unanimously.
Highway Superintendent Curt Loe outlined Road & Bridge needs, including a request to purchase or lease a belly-dump trailer; commissioners directed Loe to obtain options and said they would call a special meeting should a timely opportunity arise. Loe also reported the daycare entrance and the county shop in Michigan are in poor condition; the commission directed that the entrance be dug up and graveled.
Commissioner Cameron Swenson moved and Commissioner Steve Forde seconded a motion to sign a DocuSign agreement from the North Dakota Department of Transportation; the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.
The meeting concluded after commissioners provided portfolio updates on the daycare, park maintenance, the Sheriff’s Department and pavilion equipment. Commissioner Mike Haugland moved to adjourn; Commissioner Aaron Mork seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
