Camp Verde council authorizes application for up to $750,000 grant to redesign Verde Lakes Drive crossing

The Camp Verde Council on Feb. 19 approved a resolution authorizing town staff to apply for a FY24–25 Rural and Tribal Assistance Pilot Program Discretionary Grant of up to $750,000 to design a replacement low-water crossing at Verde Lakes Drive.
CIP Project Manager Martin Smith told council members that Clear Creek overtops the roadway after significant rain events, causing damage to the asphalt and undermining the roadway base. Smith said closures limit resident access and increase emergency-response times; the Town’s Streets Department must repeatedly repair the road after flood events.
Smith said the grant would fund the design of a culvert system to convey stormwater through a structure under the roadway rather than letting the creek overtop the surface; the grant requires no local match and is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Public Works Director Ken Krebbs and Utilities Director Jeff Low answered Council questions about project scope, maintenance and impacts.
Council voted unanimously, on a motion by Councilor Robin Godwin and second by Councilor Robert Foreman, to approve Resolution 2025-1166 and authorize staff to submit the grant application and take necessary actions to implement the application. The roll-call vote was 7–0.
