The Henderson City Council voted to approve two separate rezoning requests affecting parcels on Raleigh Road.
Ordinance 21-16 rezoned Vance County tax parcels 0066 04001 and 0066 04019 at 1715 Raleigh Road from B2A (Highway Commercial District) to R-8M (Moderate to High Density Residential). Property owner Brian Mitchell spoke in favor, saying he wanted to enlarge his home for family members and grandchildren. Council Member Garry D. Daeke moved approval; the motion passed with a unanimous recorded vote.
Ordinance 21-17 rezoned several parcels at 3170 and 3180 Raleigh Road, together totaling about 35.19 acres, from I-2 (Industrial Non Park District) to R-15M (Moderate to Low Density Residential HUD Code Home District). Development Services Director Corey Williams told Council that the area currently lacks sewer and that future development requiring departures from existing standards would return to Council for review. Notices were sent to surrounding property owners as required and the Planning Board had no objection. Council approved Ordinance 21-17 by vote with no recorded opposition.
Both ordinances were recorded in the Ordinance Book as part of the consent to reclassify the parcels for residential use; Council did not attach additional conditions beyond standard procedures for future site-specific reviews.
