Bremer County sets second readings for rezoning and pipeline-ordinance repeal after public hearings

The Bremer County Board of Supervisors on March 3 opened and closed public hearings on two zoning-related ordinances and approved each for first reading, scheduling second readings for March 10, 2026 at 10:15 a.m.
At the hearing on Ordinance #25-08, the board considered a rezoning request to change the Heim property from A-1 to A-2. Building & Zoning Administrator Lindsey Koehler managed the hearing; Wes Gielau spoke in support representing the property owners, and the board noted receipt of a letter from adjoining landowner Wade Schmudlach stating he did not object. Supervisor Hildebrandt moved to close the hearing and approve the first reading; Supervisor Cerwinske seconded the motion and the board set the second reading for March 10.
The board then opened a hearing on Ordinance #26-03, which repeals Bremer County Ordinance 23-02 (an ordinance that amended zoning rules to regulate the transport of hazardous liquid through a hazardous liquid pipeline). Koehler told the board the repeal follows advice from the county’s legal team because of a potential conflict with federal regulations. The board closed the hearing, approved the first reading of the repeal ordinance, and scheduled the second reading for March 10, 2026 at 10:15 a.m.
