Hueytown mayor touts Nature Park trail work; chamber and arts groups preview spring events

Debbie Kiker, executive director of the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce, reviewed the Chamber’s 2026 event slate and programs including a scholarship for 2025–2026, a 'Munch & Mingle' on Feb. 17, the Third Annual Spring Market on March 14 at the Family Recreation Center, and the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on May 7 at North Highlands Baptist Church. Kiker encouraged residents to shop locally and referred listeners to the Chamber website for details.
Michelle McClinton, president of the Hueytown Arts Council, announced the second Mystery Dinner Theater (tickets on sale Feb. 6), a Community Art Show on April 11, spring play auditions, and joint planning with the Chamber for City Fest on June 27.
During the public-comment period, Marcia Blackman introduced herself as a candidate for Alabama House District 57. Roscelia Steele of 89 Crystal Avenue requested an update from the mayor and council about ongoing dumping across from her home. Eric Frey, representing American Legion Post 2845, offered the Legion’s assistance to the city and thanked the council. Philip Longmire said he has scheduled a contractor to clean a property and will bring photos to the next meeting to document the cleanup.
Council President Hurliman reminded speakers of public-comment rules: commenters must state name and address, be Hueytown residents, and are limited to three minutes.
