On March 7 the Lunenburg County Planning Commission unanimously recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve CUP 1‑24, allowing Virginia Shed Company LLC to operate a retail store selling portable storage sheds and metal carports at 134 Patrick Henry Highway in Keysville on a 5.166‑acre A‑1 parcel.
Applicant Kent Weaver told the Commission the business arrangement would be similar to a prior Stringfellow CUP; Old Hickory Buildings will supply the portable storage sheds and is expected to purchase the property contingent on CUP approval, while metal carports will be supplied through a different company. The Commission and staff limited display placement to avoid siting storage sheds or carports past the existing structure toward Highway 360.
Recommended conditions read by Clerk Taylor N. King require compliance with fire and uniform building codes, adequate room for emergency vehicles, parking that does not impede traffic on Highway 360, adherence to A‑1 district sign and setback rules, maintenance of the Hwy 360 entrance to prevent mud and debris from deliveries, and regular trash removal. The Commission added an annual reporting condition to the Commissioner of Revenue's office.
Commissioner Drummond moved to recommend approval with the amendment; Commissioner Trent seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
