Henderson City Council meets in closed session under attorney–client privilege, reconvenes and adjourns
Summary
Councilmember Michael Venable moved to enter closed session under N.C.G.S. § 143-318.11(a)(3); the council later reconvened in open session and unanimously approved adjournment at 11:13 a.m. Mayor Melissa Elliott left to attend a concurrent meeting and delegated presiding duties to Councilmember Sam Seifert.
At the May 6, 2024 special called meeting, Councilmember Michael Venable moved that the Henderson City Council convene in closed session under N.C.G.S. § 143-318.11(a)(3) (attorney–client privilege); Councilmember Geraldine Champion seconded the motion.
The clerk’s notes record that Mayor Melissa Elliott left the meeting to attend a related, simultaneous meeting and asked Councilmember Sam Seifert to preside in her absence. Councilmember Lamont Noel left the meeting at 10:58 a.m.
Councilmember Geraldine Champion later moved to reconvene in open session; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Michael Venable. Councilmember Michael Venable moved to adjourn; Councilmember Ola Thorpe-Cooper seconded, and the motion was unanimously approved. The special meeting adjourned at 11:13 a.m.
The closed session was held pursuant to the statute cited above; no substantive deliberations from the closed session were reported in the minutes.
