Foot clinic demand rises; county continues 'Stepping On' and 'Living Well' classes

Marquette County Public Health Nurse Jenny Stelzner told the Board of Health on Dec. 2 that demand for the county foot clinic has increased since she took over the program, from about three to four clients per month to roughly six to eight per month.
Stelzner said the department continues to collaborate with the ADRC to run two education programs: 'Stepping On,' a seven-week course focused on fall prevention that includes contributions from a pharmacist, physical therapist, occupational therapist and ophthalmologist; and 'Living Well,' a six-week program that teaches skills for managing chronic health conditions.
Stelzner said the programs are part of ongoing outreach to older adults and residents with chronic conditions; the board received no request for additional funding at this meeting. The session also noted school-based outreach through the 'Ask a Nurse' initiative, where department nurses set up educational tables in schools to engage students on suicide prevention, bullying and tobacco use.
