Commission moves state aid into General Fund, approves budget amendments and a local liquor license

Steele County commissioners on Feb. 12 approved several financial and staffing items, including a reallocation of state aid, budget amendments and a local liquor license.
Commissioner Randy Richards moved and Commissioner Richard Strand seconded a motion to deposit the 2018 state aid amount previously dedicated for the Social Service fund into the county's General Fund, because the county is no longer levying for Social Service. Commissioners recorded discussion about the open Social Service Director position; Veteran Service Officer Dennis Lindstrom said the position has been posted and that Traill County has offered to help during March at no cost other than mileage. The commission said interviews for the position will be handled by Lindstrom, Chairman Brian Tuite and Social Service board member Brittany Ness.
The board also approved budget amendments for 2017 as presented. Separately, the commission approved the 2018 liquor license for Hope Golf Course by unanimous vote.
County officials said the state-aid deposit reflects the county's current levy decisions and that temporary inter-county assistance is intended to maintain services while the director position is filled. The commission recorded motions and votes in the minutes and directed staff to proceed with recruitment and the budget amendment filings.
