Golden Lake store tentatively set to reopen May 1; park board clears ground for campground project

The Steele County Park Board on Feb. 12 heard a status report on the Golden Lake store and the county's upcoming campground project.
Jake Dickson told the board he is tentatively set to open the Golden Lake store on May 1, 2018, and outlined cleaning and repair work needed, including kitchen tune-up quotes from Culinex, resurfacing of several tables and possible replacement of the dining-area carpet. The board advised Dickson to keep records of hours and receipts for items that might be reimbursed.
Board members reviewed a list of campers and set a firm deadline: all campers must be removed by Sept. 10, 2018, so the county can begin work on the new campground project. Karen Bergstrom, the county's Job Development coordinator, told the board the Parks and Recreation grant for the campground project had been preapproved; ADA requirements were discussed briefly and Commissioners Strand, Walcker and Roller agreed to meet Bergstrom later in the week to complete additional paperwork for the grant.
Steele County States Attorney Charlie Stock updated the board about property remaining at the Golden Lake store. Commissioners voted to offer Jeff Ringstad $1,500 for items on his inventory list except for a disputed microwave; Stock will contact Ringstad and the board set a previously discussed Feb. 24 deadline for removal, after which remaining items will be moved to storage.
The Park Board adjourned after completing these items. Next steps include completing grant paperwork and confirming timelines for site work once grant conditions and ADA requirements are finalized.
