Health department to launch 'Birth and Beyond'; county outlines America 250 events

A council member announced that the Delaware County Health Department will launch "Birth and Beyond," a series of pop-up events beginning Friday, Jan. 9, at the DCHD Wellness Center in Yeadon, intended to connect birthing and expecting parents to classes, resources and supportive services. "This initiative is designed to improve maternal and infant health outcomes by increasing access to education, supportive services, and community resources during pregnancy, post partum, and beyond," the council member said. Registration is required through the DCHD wellness line.
Separately, the council discussed America 250 PA Delco programming tied to the national sesquicentennial observances. A council member said an event scheduled for Jan. 9 at Valley Forge Military College will preview heritage-themed programming (agriculture, colonial history, Underground Railroad/Civil Rights, industry and local music/pop culture) and noted that most event funding will be raised by the America 250 commission; the county committed $250,000 in ARPA funds for economic-development efforts connected to the program but otherwise is not using general-fund dollars.
Officials said the county will follow up with logistics and ticket information at america250padelco.org and encouraged public participation. No legislative action or new funding votes were taken on either item during the meeting.
