Newly elected sheriff introduces K-9 Zlacco, emphasizes transparency and modernization

The newly elected Delaware County sheriff, introduced to the council and public at Wednesday's meeting, said his top priorities include transparency, accountability and modernizing the sheriff's office.
"I'm honored to be your sheriff…my key focus is transparency, accountability, and the trust with the public," the sheriff said after thanking council members and county staff for their support.
Deputy Amatucci then introduced K-9 Zlacco, a German shepherd the deputy said was imported from Germany and trained at Tri State K9 Services in Warren, Ohio. The deputy summarized a five-week, 240-hour training program and listed 14 deployments to date, including searches related to bomb threats at local high schools and college facilities and courthouse security sweeps. "He is a public safety partner and I'm proud to serve alongside him," Deputy Amatucci said.
Council members welcomed the sheriff and his team and asked that staff follow up with county officials as the office transitions. The sheriff named staff in the chamber — including a chief of staff and a chief deputy — and said the team had already begun outreach and operational work. No formal budget or staffing changes were proposed during the presentation; the remarks were introductory and focused on public-facing priorities and the new K-9 capability.
Council members noted appreciation for the K-9 unit's rapid deployments to schools and courthouse locations and invited future updates on program operations and interagency deployments.
