Council ratifies three‑year extension with Waste Industries for solid-waste services

The Henderson City Council on July 11 ratified a three‑year extension of its existing solid waste contract with Waste Industries, the vendor now operating as GFL.
City Manager E. Terrell Blackmon said GFL requested the agreement remain in the original Waste Industries name because the original contract was executed under that company name. The extension will continue current service terms and is scheduled to remain in effect until July 31, 2025. The manager noted the contract includes inflationary adjustments of roughly 3–4 percent.
Council Member Garry Daeke asked whether the inflationary formula would remain the same; the manager confirmed it would. The council approved Resolution 22‑54 by recorded vote: Yes—Sara M. Coffey, Lamont Noel, D. Michael Rainey, Melissa Elliott, Garry D. Daeke, Ola Thorpe‑Cooper, Jason A. Spriggs and Marion B. Williams. No: none. The motion carried and was entered into the Resolution Book (Res. 22‑54).
No amendments to the contract language were recorded in the minutes; council approved the extension as presented.
