Nelson County appoints State Fair delegates, to readvertise clerk role and approves sheriff enforcement contract

Nelson County commissioners on Oct. 3 handled several administrative and contractual items: they appointed two state fair delegates, agreed to readvertise a vacancy in the Clerk of Court and Recorderoffice after a job offer was declined, directed the county to pursue a software contract, and approved a sheriff enforcement contract with a specified overtime reimbursement.
Traci Lagein of NDSU Extension reported outreach to potential delegates; the commission appointed Dave Matejcek and Josh Joramo as North Dakota State Fair delegates on a unanimous vote. The commission also discussed the Clerk of Court and Recorder vacancy; the job offer to Kristi Matejcek was not accepted, and commissioners voted to keep advertising the position until it is filled.
Auditor Nathan Parks briefed the commission on taxation, payroll and accounting software used by the Auditor, Treasurer and Tax Director offices; commissioners directed staff to move forward with a contract with Tyler Technologies. Sheriff Kurt Schwind joined the meeting and the commission voted to sign a North Dakota Department of Transportation contract for impaired-driving and speed enforcement, with overtime reimbursed at $5,630 for 2024.
Commissioners approved bills for payment and offered portfolio updates: Commissioner Swenson reported on the Stump Lake Park shop; Commissioner Forde flagged the upcoming NDACo conference; Commissioner Mork relayed positive public feedback about the Highway Department; Chairman Cody Johnson provided an update on the Law Enforcement Center. The meeting adjourned after unanimous approval to adjourn.
