Nelson County Commission approves financials, abatements and bills; hears multiple department updates
Summary
The commission unanimously approved September financial statements, ten property abatements and county bills; staff and outside consultants provided updates on parks, JDA grants, law enforcement center, emergency management, and upcoming projects. Nelson County Commissioners on Oct. 17 approved routine administrative items and received brief updates from county staff and outside consultants.
The board approved the minutes of the Oct. 3 meeting and the Oct. 17 agenda at the opening of the session. After a presentation by Lori Schuh, the county approved the September Financial Statements by unanimous roll-call vote.
Commissioners approved abatements for ten parcels (parcel numbers listed in the record). Commissioner Swenson provided an update on the Stump Lake Park shop; Commissioner Forde noted that recordings from the NDACo Conference are available; Commissioner Haugland reported that the Nelson County JDA will explore possible grants; and Chairman Cody Johnson updated the board on the Law Enforcement Center.
On transportation business, Highway Superintendent Curt Loe joined to discuss road and bridge matters. Auditor Nathan Parks presented information about Verizon’s interest in GPS tracking and said that maintaining the county’s current tracking settings could reduce the yearly cost by half; commissioners tabled the topic pending Curt Loe contacting a Verizon representative for more information.
Consultant Paul Bjornson (KLJ), Emergency Manager Angela Herda, and Tax Director Michelle Linstad also offered updates. With no further business, the board approved bills for payment and adjourned the meeting.
