Nelson County commissioners approve engineering addition, grants and routine business

At their Dec. 19 meeting the Nelson County Commission approved adding Stump Lake Park to an engineering chip-seal project, signed an energy-conservation grant for the McVille shop (50% cost share), approved a motor-grader payment schedule, liquor licenses, election procedures, financials, abatements and bills.
Nelson County commissioners met Dec. 19, 2023, and approved a series of routine county actions, including adding Stump Lake Park to an existing county engineering agreement for a planned chip-seal project and signing an energy-conservation grant to insulate the McVille shop at a 50% county cost share.
The engineering-agreement addition to include Stump Lake Park was moved by Commissioner Cameron Swenson and seconded by Commissioner Aaron Mork; the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. Paul Bjornson of KLJ Engineering was present about the chip-seal work and bridge updates.
Commissioner Aaron Mork moved and Commissioner Cameron Swenson seconded approval to sign an energy-conservation grant to insulate the McVille shop with the county covering 50% of the cost; the motion passed on a roll-call unanimous vote.
The board also reviewed equipment and approved a payment schedule for newly purchased motor graders, following an update from Kevin Wolford of Butler Machinery. The payment schedule was approved after review; the motion to sign the schedule passed unanimously.
Auditor Nathan Parks presented beer and liquor license applications from Rock Creek Golf Course. Commissioner Steve Forde moved and Commissioner Aaron Mork seconded approval of the beer and liquor licenses; commissioners voted unanimously to approve the applications.
On election business the commission confirmed that the 2024 election will use the same precinct set-up and vote-by-mail procedures as previously used. Commissioners voted unanimously to designate Nelson County as a precinct and to approve vote by mail in Nelson County.
The commission approved the county financial statements and later approved the bills as presented. Tax Director Michelle Linstad brought forward homestead and veteran credit abatements; the commission approved abatements for parcels 21-0003-46629-000, 02-0002-11639-000 and 16-0000-04641-500 on unanimous roll-call votes.
All motions recorded in the minutes passed on unanimous votes unless otherwise noted. The meeting adjourned after portfolio updates from commissioners and the approval of bills.
