Emergency manager: county will sell radio tower site and buy replacement deputy radios

Steele County Emergency Manager Ben Gates told commissioners that 2.4 acres at the old radio tower site will be sold by public bid; the board voted to publish the request for bids and decided that at the Feb. 12 meeting the top three bidders may orally revise their bids. Commissioners also asked that reflectors be placed where old guyed wires remain as a safety precaution.
Gates reported that deputies' portable radios need replacement. The board approved buying new portable radios for sheriff's deputies and agreed to fund the purchase from the General Fund.
Gates also briefed the commission on the SIRN 20/20 and FirstNet communications projects and provided multiple handouts including event alert histories and activity reports for road department vehicles. The meeting record shows the county will follow up with additional procurement and planning steps and expects further coordination with NDDOT and other agencies where noted.
