Steele County accepts bids for culverts and asphalt, moves forward on County Road projects

Steele County commissioners on Jan. 2 accepted vendor bids to support the county's 2018 road program and took several votes affecting construction work.
The board unanimously accepted TrueNorth Steel's bid for culverts and Flint Hills Resources' bid to supply asphalt for county projects in 2018. Commissioners also approved a request to have property owner Chad Elbert pay all costs for installing a culvert under County Road 8 in Hugo Township.
Mike Bassingthwaite of Interstate Engineering briefed the commission that previously supplied County Federal Aid Program figures from NDDOT were incorrect; Chairman Brian Tuite signed a corrected 2018 County Federal Aid Program document and the county will hold a conference call with NDDOT to resolve funding-account details.
The commission approved paying Knife River $46,909.55 for Change Order #5 related to construction work; a roll-call vote recorded Richards, Johnson, Strand and Walcker voting yes. Separately, the board voted to hold a retainer payment. Commissioners discussed the upcoming County Road #5 project and assigned Randy Richards to meet on site with Interstate Engineering to review the plans.
The commission scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 12.
