Camp Verde ratifies WIFA grant applications for Mongini well replacement and 1.7M-gallon tank storage

The Camp Verde Town Council on Oct. 2 ratified two grant submissions to the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA) aimed at strengthening the town’s water system.
Staff sought retroactive ratification after submitting a $2,000,000 WIFA grant application with no local match for replacement of the Mongini Well and an arsenic treatment system. Town Manager Miranda Fisher told the council the grant “was due the past Wednesday and therefore was already submitted,” and staff asked for council ratification of the filing. The council approved the ratification 6-0 (Council Member Jackie Baker absent).
In a separate action, staff asked the council to ratify a $1,600,000 WIFA grant application to fund two 500,000-gallon storage tanks at the Vale/Verde Commercial Site, with the possibility of adding a $3,000,000 loan component if needed. Administrative Support Manager Dorie Blair said the tanks would improve reserve capacity; Manager Fisher said the tanks would add “up to 1.7 million gallons.” Utilities Director Jeff Low told the council the additional storage would provide “about a day and a half of water supply,” and “which will triple capacity” compared with current reserves. The council approved that ratification 6-0.
Staff noted the Verde Commercial property owner is providing one acre for the storage site (a donation that must be finalized in an agreement before accepting funds). If either WIFA application is awarded, staff said the project would return to the council for final approval of construction and any associated loan terms.
The motions to ratify the submissions were supported by council members and carried unanimously. The council heard one public compliment for Utilities Director Jeff Low and the utilities staff during the public-comment portion.
