At its Dec. 12 meeting the Town of Canton Board of Aldermen/women approved a package of routine motions covering community events, recovery support and municipal spending.
Motions approved by unanimous voice vote included accepting ARP funds, a budget amendment authorizing the purchase of a living trailer for the fire department, payment to Creech and Associates to facilitate the town’s move to a new town hall, and accepting a donated ice sculpture from the TDA (the board chose a single bear-shaped sculpture).
The board also approved a staff recommendation to co‑sponsor an event at Waterwheel Park produced by The Grateful Table and the 505 Market; organizer Jeanne Forrest told the board she expected 200–250 attendees and would distribute perishable food items. The board voted to allow the Baptist Mission to use the International Paper complex to stage building supplies for flood victims; Manager Stinnett said the complex will remain closed to the public until April.
Board members moved into closed session under N.C.G.S. 143‑318.11 (a)(4)(5)(6) during the meeting and returned with no action taken. The meeting adjourned at 9:06 p.m.
