RHEA COUNTY — The Rhea County Commission on Aug. 8 unanimously adopted the fiscal year 2025–26 budget and left the county tax rate unchanged at 1.3486.
Chairman Jim Reed presided over the special-called meeting at the Phil Swafford Building. Commissioner Thedford moved to approve the budget as presented by the Budget Committee and to release the document to the local newspaper in accordance with state regulations; Commissioner Welch seconded the motion, which passed with all present voting "aye." Commissioners Ballard and Fisher were recorded as absent.
Commissioner Cashman then moved, with Commissioner Thedford seconding, to keep the 2025–26 tax rate at 1.3486. The motion passed unanimously. Later in the meeting Commissioner Cashman moved and Commissioner Stephens seconded a motion directing adherence to the budget calendar and legal requirements as previously approved by the commission, with an instruction that if required deadline dates are not met the commission would refer to the previous year’s budget; that motion also carried unanimously.
