Board weighs Brennan Courthouse HVAC grant and relocation options after 595 plan stalls

Hudson County officials told commissioners on July 15 that plans to move Brennan Courthouse operations to the 595 building are not proceeding as previously discussed and that the County will pursue a preservation grant to upgrade Brennan’s HVAC.

County Administrator Abraham Antun said the Brennan Courthouse is historically designated; the exterior and the powerhouse footprint are protected, and the county is preparing an application to the New Jersey Historic Trust Capital Preservation program seeking $1.5 million — with a $750,000 county match — to fund HVAC improvements. Antun said the County is working to “minimize the effect of what equipment we're going to need to have inside the building” and emphasized the need to coordinate with the Administrative Office of the Courts before relocating judicial functions.
