Sheriff Wayne Beckman asked the board to approve purchasing four portable radios estimated at $9,176; Canadian Pacific agreed to reimburse the county for the radios and to donate two radios to the Steele County Sheriff's Office. Commissioners approved the purchase with reimbursement (motion by Commissioner Ted Johnson, seconded by Commissioner Randy Richards).
Emergency Manager Ben Gates provided an update on the courthouse security system, upcoming trainings and recent grant applications. Gates also reported no quotes had been received for chimney removal. Gates requested posting county property sales, property cards and tax statements on the county website; Commissioner Richard Strand moved to post them but the motion failed for lack of a second.
The commission approved a Pledge of Assets as presented and reviewed employee handbook proposals; the board left Road Department hours unchanged and added grandparents to the immediate-family definition for bereavement leave.
What's next: County staff will process the radio purchase and reimbursement with Canadian Pacific and continue pursuing courthouse security and any required quotes for chimney removal.
