Steele County approves 2019 pay and benefits package, including 3% raises and expanded family coverage

At the July 18 meeting, Commissioner Randy Richards moved and Commissioner Ted Johnson seconded approval of a 3% wage increase for county employees and longevity pay steps: an additional $0.25 per hour for employees with six to ten years of service and $0.50 per hour for employees with 11 or more years. The motion carried on a unanimous vote. The board also approved hourly wage adjustments for Anhorn and Moore to $17 per hour and for Czapiewski to $18 per hour (motion by Commissioner Richard Strand, seconded by Commissioner Russell Walcker).
The commission voted to cover 75% of family health, dental and vision insurance premiums for 2019 (motion by Commissioner Strand, seconded by Commissioner Richards). Commissioners discussed the overall 2019 budget at length before adopting these personnel measures.
Auditor Emily Wigen presented sample notices and publications related to tax notices that support the county’s budget process. Commissioners continued budget review at meetings on July 24 where the county mill levy estimate and publication language were examined.
