Steele County signs on to Agassiz Valley Social Services District; staffing set for Sept. 1
Summary
Steele County commissioners unanimously approved entering the Agassiz Valley Social Services District; staffing begins Sept. 1, 2018 and fiscal consolidation will take effect in January 2019. The board also appointed county representatives to the district board and approved leave/stipend accommodations for a public health nurse.
Steele County commissioners unanimously voted Aug. 7 to sign the final agreement joining the Agassiz Valley Social Services District, with the staffing portion of the plan taking effect Sept. 1, 2018 and the fiscal portion effective Jan. 1, 2019.
Social Services director Kim Jacobson presented the final agreement to the board and outlined the staggered effective dates. Commissioner Richard Strand moved to sign and enter the agreement; Commissioner Randy Richards seconded the motion, and a roll-call vote was recorded as unanimous.
At the same meeting the commission appointed county representatives to the new district board: Brittany Ness was named to a three-year term, Commissioner Ted Johnson to a two-year term and Commissioner Randy Richards to a one-year term (motion by Commissioner Strand, seconded by Commissioner Russell Walcker).
The board also approved allowing Public Health Nurse Brittany Ness to serve on the Agassiz Social Service district board without using annual leave when service falls during normal work hours; the board agreed she will not receive a meeting stipend in those cases.
The actions complete the county’s administrative steps to join the district; the county will implement staffing responsibilities on Sept. 1 and handle financial consolidation on the journaled date in January 2019. The commission recessed for the Steele County Park Board meeting at 8:06 a.m. and reconvened at 9:16 a.m.
