Board adopts FY2025 budget calendar, approves Telework Center contract and hears modular concept for Carlton’s Corner

At its Nov. 15 meeting the King and Queen County Board of Supervisors adopted the FY2025 budget calendar and approved a negotiated construction contract for a Telework Center, and the County Administrator introduced a development concept for Carlton’s Corner.

The budget calendar, presented by the County Administrator, sets a sequence of deadlines and work sessions beginning Dec. 18, 2023 (budget packet issuance) and carrying through work sessions, public hearings and advertisement steps into March and April 2024, with a work session on April 22, 2024 slated to adopt the FY2025 budget and tax rates. Ms. Alsop moved to adopt the calendar; the motion carried unanimously with D. H. Morris absent.

The board approved a contract with Connemara Corporation for the Telework Center. The minutes note the October bid award had been approved previously and that the contract had been reviewed and negotiated by the County Administrator, Skanska and outside counsel. Mr. Simpkins moved to approve the contract; the motion passed unanimously with D. H. Morris absent.

County Administrator Ms. Seay introduced Ryan Cantu of Wilmot Modular Structures, who provided a concept for the Carlton’s Corner property that would include a fire station and a building to house the health department and Social Services. Board members and the Deputy Chief of Emergency Services discussed space requirements and intended uses. The minutes do not record funding commitments for the Carlton’s Corner concept; staff said they are working with Wilmot to maximize the use of the property.

The board also made a series of routine appointments to local boards and commissions during the meeting.
