King and Queen supervisors file no‑objection on draft redistricting maps

Donna Sprouse, Director of Community Development, presented updated redistricting maps to the King and Queen County Board of Supervisors at its Jan. 24, 2022 regular meeting and explained how the new lines were drawn to meet allowable deviations set by the US Census Bureau.
The board heard that the Buena Vista District boundaries were left unchanged to align with the state legislative district lines, while population changes elsewhere prompted adjustments to other district lines. Sprouse said the new district lines must be approved by the state before they take effect.
Following the presentation, Ms. Alsop moved and Mr. Bailey seconded a motion to file a certificate of no objection with the state. The motion passed unanimously (AYES: MORRIS, SIMPKINS, BURNS, ALSOP, BAILEY).
The filing starts the next administrative step toward state review; the board did not take further action on map changes at the meeting and will await state response.
