Summary
Council approved submission of a $150,000 grant application to the Triangle North Healthcare Foundation to support phase two of William and Montgomery Street Park; City expects project completion in February 2025 and said Vulcan Materials donated construction materials.
The Henderson City Council voted unanimously on June 12 to submit a $150,000 grant application to the Triangle North Healthcare Foundation to support phase two of the William and Montgomery Street Park.
City Manager Edward T. Blackmon said rising costs have increased the need for additional funds. Recreation and Parks Director Kendrick Vann told council the project is scheduled for completion in February 2025, that negotiations are underway with a contractor, and that Vulcan Materials has donated materials to help reduce costs. Vann said the project team is pursuing trail grants via the City’s eCivis software to incorporate walking trails and a track.
Councilmember D. Michael Rainey asked whether current staff would manage the park and Vann said existing staff should be sufficient for shelter rentals and monitoring the splash pad. Vann described plans for three shelters: one larger open-air market shelter and two smaller shelters.
Council approved Resolution 23-19 to submit the $150,000 application; the resolution is recorded in Resolution Book 7.
